📘 Condensed Training Schedule (4 Sessions)
Session 1: Introduction & Initial Configuration (duration : 4 hours)
-
Learn: Fortinet Security Fabric, device types, GUI/CLI, admin management, backup/restore.
-
Hands-on Lab: Configure IP, change admin password, update firmware.
-
Outcome: Understand the Fortinet ecosystem, master the initial setup, and prepare the device for deployment.
Session 2: Basic Routing & Policy (Controlling network traffic and defining access rules) (duration : 4 hours)
-
Learn: Static route, policy route, distance, diagnostic commands. Create and manage firewall policies (order, action, log traffic).
-
Hands-on Lab: Create a static route for LAN → Internet; write firewall policies to allow LAN → WAN traffic.
-
Outcome: Gain a solid understanding of routing principles in FortiGate, verify traffic paths, and master basic firewall policies. These skills form the foundation for more advanced security policies
Session 3: NAT, Network Segmentation, DHCP, DNS, Authentication (Dividing networks by departments, IP assignment, and user authentication) (duration : 4 hours)
-
Learn: Source NAT, Destination NAT, Virtual IPs, service publishing. VLAN concepts, creating VLANs by department, grouping interfaces into Zones, DHCP server/relay, DNS filtering, authentication (Local/LDAP/RADIUS/AD).
-
Hands-on Lab: Configure NAT for internal servers to access/receive access from the Internet; create VLANs for Sales/IT with separate policies; configure DHCP for LAN; integrate AD authentication for Internet access.
-
Outcome: Learners will know how to securely use NAT, segment networks with VLANs for better security and manageability, deploy dynamic IP allocation, and enforce user identity-based Internet access. This strengthens user-level security and improves organizational control.
Session 4: Site-to-Site VPN (Connecting two Fortinet devices between company branches) (duration : 4 hours)
-
Learn: VPN fundamentals, IPSec mechanism, site-to-site VPN configuration.
-
Hands-on Lab: Build an IPSec tunnel connecting two branch offices.
-
Outcome: Learners will be able to deploy secure VPNs between offices, ensuring safe data transmission and supporting enterprises with multiple branches or hybrid network models.
